Haut-Barr Castle in Saverne
Discover the "Eye of Alsace" during your stay in Saverne.
The Hotel Chez Jean invites you to discover the Haut-Barr castle of Saverne, a soothing place built on three rocks at an altitude of 470 metres.
High historical site of the Saverne region, the Haut-Barr castle is classified as a historical monument since 1874. This ruined medieval castle from the 12th century was built by the bishops of Strasbourg, directly in the pink rocks typical of the region.
The place is as well suited to hiking as it is to family walks, even with children!
Climb on the castle's promontory to contemplate the magnificent view you have: a fabulous 360° panorama of the Alsace plain and the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park. On a sunny and clear day, you can even guess the cathedral of Strasbourg.
Accessible by stairs, discover the Pont du Diable which overhangs the void between two rocky peaks, its crossing is very impressive. Discover also a magnificent Romanesque castle chapel.
The (free) application "On the trail of the treasures of Alsace" makes your visit even more fun!
